Church History
Early 1976 God sent Elder Wilford Mitchell on a mission. God told him to go out and he would show him the building to minister in and help God's people. Being an obedient man Elder Mitchell started looking. After several months he was riding down Broadway and he heard a voice say, "LOOK! There is your building."
He looked at the building, and the sign said Mar Glad Hall. He knocked on the apartment door and asked the man, "Is this building for sale?" The man said, "Yes." He went home and prayed about it and God said he would open the doors. There was about 30 followers at this time and we had been breaking bread from house to house.
Bishop put the building in escrow, and on May 8, 1977 the doors of Church of Eternal Salvation were opened. During the first few years the building inspectors came and requested that the building be brought up to code in various areas. We started selling bar-b-que dinners to raise money for the repairs and the balance came from the church family. The contractors put the new bathrooms in and Bishop adjusted the length of the pews to meet building standards. We prayed and thanked God for His grace and the inspectors left the church alone for a season.
On January 17, 2021 we were saddened by the loss of our Pastor, Bishop Wilford Mitchell. Dr. Kimberly Roberts, Bishop's daughter, has accepted the calling to become the second Pastor of Church of Eternal Salvation. She was installed as Pastor in January 2022. Dr. Kimberly Roberts has a set vision for COES which alines with God's desire for His church.
Accomplishments for our church include a new roof installed, both bathrooms modernized, sanctuary lighting and fans replaced. Also, a major revising of the Fellowship Hall and a kitchen, now known as Big Mama's Cafe which includes a new state of the art kitchen.
Many precious members have passed on. But the faithful ones are still pressing on for the prize of the high calling which is in Christ Jesus Our Lord.
